Job Description:
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Landscaper is a hands-on grounds role responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the Bayside Towers compound. Working under the direction of the Landscape Supervisor, the role carries out the routine tasks of the weekly grounds programme — mowing, edging, trimming, weeding, and general site care — to keep the compound clean, safe, and well presented. The Landscaper follows the Landscape Supervisor's daily task assignments and works alongside them, and any visiting grounds crews or contractors, as required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Grounds Maintenance
Carry out mowing (walk-behind and/or ride-on, as assigned), edging, trimming, weeding, and blowing/clean-down in line with the weekly grounds programme.
Maintain hedges and shrubs, remove suckers, and clear litter and debris across the compound.
Carry out routine plant care: watering, basic pruning to instruction, mulch upkeep, and removal of dead growth.
Assist with planting works as directed by the Landscape Supervisor or specialist horticulturist.
Site Presentation
Maintain high-visibility areas daily — entrance, pool surrounds, tennis and pickleball court surrounds — including sweeping and removal of standing water after rain.
Keep the compound clean, safe, and well presented at all times.
Support treatment works (fertilising, weed and pest control) under the direction and supervision of the certified specialist; follow all safety, PPE, and signage instructions.
Reporting & Housekeeping
Report problems promptly to the Landscape Supervisor — dead or diseased plants, irrigation faults, drainage issues, safety hazards, or damage — with photos where possible.
Assist with keeping the daily grounds log up to date and with monthly photo records.
Maintain tools and equipment in good, safe working order; report defects and consumable needs to the Landscape Supervisor.
Follow the Landscape Supervisor's daily task assignments and complete work from the weekly schedule to standard.
KEY COMPETENCIES
Knowledge
- Grounds and landscaping practices — understanding of mowing heights, edging, hedge trimming, and basic plant care sufficient to deliver the weekly grounds programme to standard.
- Basic plant health awareness — able to recognise common signs of disease, pest damage, or irrigation problems and know when to escalate.
- Safety and PPE requirements — understanding of safe practices around machinery, chemicals, and residents on a live residential compound.
Skills
- Practical grounds skills — competent with mowing (walk-behind and/or ride-on), trimming, edging, hedge work, basic pruning, and planting.
- Equipment care — able to operate and maintain grounds tools and machinery safely, keeping them in good working order.
- Following instructions — able to read a work schedule, follow written and verbal instructions, and keep simple written records (grounds log, photos).
Behaviours
- Reliability and punctuality — consistently present and ready for assigned work each day.
- Pride in presentation — notices what is out of place and fixes it without being told.
- Respectful and professional — appropriate conduct around residents, directors, and contractors on site.
Competencies
- Attention to detail — consistently meeting set standards (mowing height, edging lines, bed presentation) across the compound.
- Physical stamina — able to perform full-time outdoor manual work in varying weather conditions.
- Problem awareness — flags issues (safety hazards, plant problems, equipment defects) early rather than leaving them unaddressed.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Minimum 1–3 years' hands-on landscaping/grounds experience; candidates with strong aptitude and less experience may be considered.
Solid practical skills in mowing, trimming, edging, hedge work, basic pruning, and planting.
Able to follow a work schedule and written instructions, and keep simple written records.
Experience on residential compounds or hotel/commercial grounds an advantage.
Physically fit for full-time outdoor manual work.
Reliable and punctual; valid driver's permit an advantage.
